One of the greatest joys of Hannah’s Hope Lodge is hearing about the wonderful experiences our guests enjoy during their stay. While the lodge provides a peaceful and comfortable place to relax, it is often the precious moments spent together, away from hospital appointments and treatment schedules, that become the memories families treasure most.
Over recent months, our guests have embraced everything that Mercia Marina and the surrounding area have to offer, from gentle walks and bike rides to delicious meals, local events, and simply spending quality time together.
Exploring Mercia Marina
Many guests have fallen in love with the beautiful marina setting, describing it as peaceful, accessible and welcoming.
One family shared:
“Amazing lodge, peaceful, scenic. The marina is amazing to walk around, very accessible area. The activities are very fun. Lovely friendly community. Would 100% come again if we had the opportunity.”
The flat pathways around the marina make it easy for wheelchair users and families to explore, while the waterside cafés and restaurants provide the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy time together.
Another guest told us:
“Mercia Marina is a flat, friendly place with every café serving lovely food and not too expensive. We didn’t spend half of what we thought on dining out and we ate out five nights! We made memories we’ll never, ever forget.”
Adventures on Two Wheels
The community bicycles available at the marina have proven particularly popular with our guests.
One family enjoyed:
“Community bike rides, walks exploring the boats and experiencing the Willington Raft Race. We have enjoyed every minute. Just what was needed.”
Another guest praised the initiative, saying:
“Community bicycles, what a BRILLIANT idea, and the upcycling shed was brill!”
For many families, these simple activities offer a chance to reconnect, have fun and enjoy being together without the pressures that often come with cancer treatment and recovery.
Discovering Local Food and Hidden Gems
Food has been a highlight for many of our visitors, with guests making the most of the fantastic restaurants, cafés and takeaways nearby.
One guest couldn’t stop talking about a local recommendation:
“Thanks for the Lotus Restaurant recommendation. The best take out we’ve had!!”
Others enjoyed exploring local eateries and country pubs, with Paige and Carl sharing:
“We have loved exploring the countryside walks, cycle paths and fantastic local restaurants.”
Meanwhile, another family discovered a sweet local favourite:
“We recommend Cherry Tree Farm for giant cakes!”
Rest, Relaxation and Recovery
While some guests have enjoyed getting out and about, many have simply appreciated the opportunity to slow down and recharge.
One guest summed it up perfectly:
“Thank you so much for your generous gift of a wonderful weekend away. We have had such a relaxing and restorative stay here.”
Another family shared:
“A lovely break away from hospitals and cancer.”
For many families affected by cancer, time away together provides a rare opportunity to focus on what matters most — enjoying each other’s company and creating positive memories.
A Home Away From Home
Guests consistently comment on the comfort, accessibility and thoughtful design of the lodge itself.
From the spacious living areas and wheelchair-friendly patio to the fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and comfortable bedrooms, every detail has been designed to help families feel at home.
One guest wrote:
“The lodge is beautiful, well presented and thoughtfully designed. Very clean and a very impressive size.”
Another simply said:
“Very spacious and beautiful home. Well needed break and very peaceful.”
Creating Special Memories
Perhaps the most common theme throughout all of our guestbook entries is gratitude for the opportunity to make lasting memories with loved ones.
As one family beautifully expressed:
“You have created something very special.”
And another wrote:
“We have had such a great time relaxing and making special memories.”
These comments remind us exactly why Hannah’s Hope Lodge exists. Every stay represents an opportunity for families affected by cancer to pause, reconnect and enjoy precious time together.
To everyone who supports Hannah’s Hope Charity, thank you. Your generosity helps make these unforgettable experiences possible, giving families the chance to create memories that will last a lifetime.
