Breaking New Ground: The Lodge Begins!

Breaking New Ground: The Lodge Begins!

After months of dreaming, planning and tireless fundraising… we’ve finally broken new ground, both literally and emotionally on our Teenage Cancer Respite Lodge at Mercia Marina. What started as a vision, a tranquil space where young people affected by cancer can rest, recover and reconnect with loved ones, is now becoming a reality. And it all began on a sunny July morning…

3rd July – The First Dig Begins

It was on 3rd July that Mercia Marina officially broke ground to begin the groundwork for the lodge. Watching the big yellow JCB digger roll in and bite into the earth was a moment we’ll never forget.

This was the first physical step toward building a place of respite and hope.

The excitement was real. And the digger wasn’t just shifting soil, it was making way for something truly life-changing

28th July– The Lodge Arrives

Fast forward to 28th July, and the wonderful team at Pinelog began their work on site, within just 48 hours, our stunning lodge was in place!

It was like watching a giant puzzle come together. A crane carefully lifted and positioned each section, while the team worked with absolute precision to fit everything perfectly into place.

By the end of the second day, we weren’t just standing on a plot anymore — we were standing in the lodge.

Diggers, Drainage and Details

Behind the scenes, there was a hive of activity. Drainage systems were installed to ensure the lodge would function smoothly and comfortably for guests.

Electrical hook-up, gas connection, and water supply were all put in place, the essential services that make a house feel like a home.

Everyone worked flat out to get things just right. And they did. Every cable, every pipe, every beam, all put together with care, love, and a shared belief in what this space will offer.

More Than Just Timber and Tools

This isn’t just a building.

It’s a peaceful sanctuary where teenagers living with cancer can take a break from hospital rooms, treatment plans, and emotional strain. It’s a space for joy, for rest, for family time. A place to just be.

We are incredibly grateful to Mercia Marina, Pinelog, and every single person who has contributed, whether through donations, time, skills, or support.

This is just the beginning, but what a powerful, emotional, and unforgettable beginning it has been.

From the first dig on 3rd July, to a fully installed lodge just 48 hours after work began on 28th July… we are well and truly breaking new ground.
